KUNINGAN EU ORG : It doesn't feel like a few weeks from 2016 will end. As in previous years, at the turn of the year we definitely have a series of resolutions that we want to realize in the new year. Some want to have a career advancement, develop their business and be successful, get married, have children, or buy a new house.
One of the resolutions that people often make is "change the atmosphere" by making the house safe and comfortable. Here are 10 New Year's resolutions for a safer and more comfortable home. You can use the resolutions below as a guide to decorating and renovating your home, so you can have a “new” home in the new year.
1. Replace all lamps with energy-saving lamps
Lately we must have often read news about global warming and its negative impact on the environment. One of the causes of global warming is the excessive use of electricity. Especially if our homes have decorative lights and use electronic devices that consume a lot of power.
So that in the new year we can participate in reducing electricity consumption as an action to prevent global warming, replace all lights in the house with energy efficient lamps. Also reduce the use of decorative lights and electronic devices that are not useful.
Increase the number of windows in the house, so that the rooms can get natural light from the sun and don't really need lights during the day.
2. Get rid of useless items from home
Without realizing it, we often store items that have sentimental value so we don't have the heart to throw them away. Though not necessarily the goods that we store useful and we may very rarely use.
Storing useless items will only make a house that should be neat and clean becomes messy and full of junk items. For New Year's resolutions, get rid of these useless items from your home.
Invite the family to sort and choose which items can be stored and which cannot. We also have to be a little firm with ourselves, and assess whether we really need the item so we don't have to get rid of it.
A neat and clean house will bring a new atmosphere in the new year. In addition, the house will also feel more comfortable because it is not filled with useless items.
3. Replacing house paint with ceramics
When was the last time you changed your house paint? If you can't give an answer, maybe it's time for you to change the color of your wall paint. The paint on the walls of the house, especially the outside is often peeling.
The reason is because the outer walls are often exposed to direct sunlight and rainwater. So that the walls of the house look beautiful, replace the paint on the outside of the house with ceramics. In addition to making the house look more beautiful, ceramic maintenance is easier than paint.
Ceramics can also protect the walls from moisture due to rain. So that even though it has been years, the walls of the house will still be beautiful and sturdy.
4. Updating the security system at home
What is the meaning of a large and beautiful house if the security system is weak and makes the occupants anxious. In the new year, you can update your home security system. Perform inspections or checks on gas cylinders, electrical wiring, plumbing, and alarms if you use them.
We do this check to prevent unwanted things from happening at home. Replace damaged or old equipment with newer and stronger ones. This kind of inspection does not have to be done on New Year's Day. Perform periodic inspections every month on a regular basis.
5. Make a simple garden or fish pond
If you didn't have a garden before, for a new year's resolution, it's a good idea to budget for a garden or a simple fish pond. Even though we have limited land, we can look for references on the internet about making minimalist gardens and fish ponds.
The existence of the park will bring a natural atmosphere into the house and provide comfort for its residents.
6. Add or build a new room
Are you bored with the house you are living in? Do a few renovations to make your old house a “new” home again. You can add floors to your house or build a new room. With a wider area, you will be able to more freely entertain relatives or guests who come to stay.
7. Redecorate your bedroom or living room
Bedrooms and living rooms are an important part of a house. In order to rest comfortably we need a comfortable bedroom too. Rearrange your bedroom, so you can rest more peacefully in it.
For the family room, redecorate so that the family room feels more spacious and can accommodate all family members. Maximize the function of the family room by putting things that are really needed in the room.
A comfortable bedroom and a spacious family room will make the residents feel more at home.
8. Creating an environmentally friendly and healthy kitchen
For humans, food can be a source of energy as well as disease. In the new year, create a healthy and environmentally friendly kitchen in your home. Use non-plastic items for household furniture that is often used in the kitchen.
Get rid of expired food ingredients and replace them with organic foods that are healthy for the body and good for the environment. Invite family members to participate in maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen. A clean kitchen will produce healthy food.
To prevent global warming, try not to use refrigerators that still use freon. Also make sure the air circulation system in the kitchen is functioning properly, so that the kitchen is not damp and the cooking fumes are not trapped in the room.
9. Start the energy-saving movement
In addition to changing lights and avoiding the use of refrigerators with freon, invite your family to start an energy-saving movement. Do simple things like, unplugging electronic equipment from the wall socket when not in use, or turning off the air conditioner when not in use.
You can also save energy by not using the dryer in the washing machine. Let the wet clothes dry naturally by drying them in the sun. Small energy-saving movements that we do at home can indirectly contribute to the balance of nature.
10. Prepare a special budget for the house
The start of a new year is a good time to plan a household budget for the year ahead. Within that budget, allocate some of the funds for upgrading and maintaining your home. A budget that is made in advance will prevent us from incurring expenses that are not really needed.
A house that is always well-maintained and tidy will make its residents feel more secure and comfortable.
